Peppermint Essential Oil Hot Cocoa Recipe – DIY Mint Hot Chocolate

Do you love to drink a warm cup of hot cocoa, especially on a cold night? It just warms the belly and makes one smile. Here is our Peppermint Essential Oil Hot Cocoa Recipe – DIY Mint Hot Chocolate to try!

I remember my grandma use to make me homemade hot cocoa when I was younger. I would watch her boil the milk on the stove and then add in the cocoa ingredients. She always topped it with marshmallows. It is such a wonderful memory from my childhood.

Peppermint Essential Oil for Hot Chocolate

Since discovering essential oils I have tried them in the kitchen on some of my favorite recipes to see if I could make them even better. The biggest thing I learned with essential oils in the kitchen is that a little goes a long way! One drop really is enough.

I am a bit of an essential oil over-user so it is hard to only use one drop, but trust me in this homemade hot cocoa recipe, one drop is enough!  Actually one toothpick dipped in peppermint was enough flavor.

When using essential oils internally it is important to make sure that your essential oil brand is safe for consumption (ingestion).  If your oil brand is safe for consumption then it should have a supplement facts box with specific use instructions and warnings.

If you have any concerns about your essential oil brand, contact the company that made them to get more information.

Peppermint Essential Oil Hot Cocoa Recipe

Serving Size 1 cup just for YOU!

  • 2 TBSP Sugar
  • 2 TBSP Cocoa Powder
  • 1 Cup Milk
  • 1 toothpick of Peppermint Essential Oil

Spark Naturals - Peppermint 5ml - 100 % Pure Therapeutic Grade Organic Quality Aromatherapy Essential Oil - Steam Distilled
Mix sugar and cocoa powder into a mug. Heat milk in microwave for 1 and 1/2 minutes or until hot. Gradually pour milk into cocoa mixture, stir well. Swirl toothpick of peppermint oil into mug (take a toothpick and dip it into peppermint oil bottle). If you really like peppermint you can use one full drop instead of toothpick-this is how I like it but it is definitely pepperminty. Top with marshmallows if you desire. Enjoy!

This is a really simple, yet delicious recipe. Be ready to make additional cups, because if your family sees you drinking this, they will more than likely want a cup too.  Better yet ask everyone before you start so you can set up all the mugs at one time with the cocoa mix in them.

I have tried two other essential oil homemade hot cocoa versions and liked them both. For Citrus Hot Cocoa, add one toothpick of tangerine essential oil instead of peppermint. Or for Spicy Hot Cocoa, add one toothpick of cinnamon essential oil instead of peppermint. It is fun to experiment with essential oils, what kind of creations have you tried?
